Game Day Challenge with Odwalla and Champions For Kids #OdwallaCFK #CBias

To contact us Click HERE

As a mother of two little boys I spend a lot of time running around pretending to be a dinosaur or giving the boys train rides on my back. We run nonstop all day long and we give 110% to whatever activity we participate in. My family is extremely active and with the weather warming up we are looking forward to expanding our list of healthy activities to include more sports. Being active is an essential component to being healthy and I am trying to raise happy healthy children.

Not everyone has the ability or the resources to choose a healthy active lifestyle. Some people do not have the equipment needed to play sports and some don’t have access to a safe place to engage in these activities.

This month I partnered with Odwalla and  Champions for Kids for another SIMPLE Service Project {#OdwallaCFK}. The SIMPLE Service “Game Day Challenge” is centered on the idea of being healthy and being active with Odwalla.

For this project my children and I purchased items at Walmart to donate to a local church that is active in the community. We bought Odwalla juice, a healthy multigrain snack, jump ropes, frisbees, bubbles, and chalk. We chose these items because being active can be as simple as chasing bubbles in the backyard.
Check out our entire shopping experience in my Google+ album.
We chose to donate our “Game Day Challenge” package to a church that hosts various programs created specifically for children. The Advent Christian Church offers a number of programs catering to all ages. There are youth ministries for teens and children’s ministries for children aged 5-5th grade.  From Sunday school to vacation bible school, this church is positively contributing to the well being of their community. We chose this church as the recipient for our SIMPLE Service project because they are active and engaged in their community.

I have taken part in a few SIMPLE Service challenges and each and every time I am amazed at how my children grow because of their participation. They love to give of themselves and more than anything else they love to help others. I enjoy giving back to my community and being able to use this experience to teach my children the importance of community and working together.
My children are active participants in the SIMPLE Service projects from beginning to end. We discuss the SIMPLE Service projects and who we want to donate them to as a family. We make our lists, go shopping, and take the donations to their destinations together. Both of my children are involved every step of the way and they love it!

The Champions For Kids SIMPLE Service projects are a great way to give back. The projects are simple and easy to do. What may seem small to you may be life changing for someone else. It is all about perspective. You can make a difference and I encourage you to reach out and find a way to be Champions For Kids in your community.

Laughter and life in a laundry basket…

To contact us Click HERE
My son WilliamMy son Steven
When my children were born they both spent the first coupleof weeks living in a laundry basket. I put a pillow in the bottom of a laundrybasket and covered it with a baby blanket. I used the laundry basket to carrymy children all over the house. They slept in their laundry basket cribs forthe first couple weeks of their lives and loved it!

We did not have a mosses basket or a portable basinet that Icould cart around the house all day long. Since we had a perfectly good cribas well as a pack-n-play I simply could not justify purchasing another contraption thatwould only be used for a month or two. We made do with what we had.
I was {and I stillam} a very active mother and sitting in one place too long makes me itch. Mychildren and I do not stay in one room of the house for very long. When theboys were babies and needed to be carried from place to place while napping alaundry basket was the quickest, easiest, and least expensive mode oftransportation. Being shuffled around in the basket meant that sleep was notdisturbed and I had my hands free to get things done around the house. It was awin-win situation.

Now that the boys are bigger {3 years-old and 1 year-old}they still cannot seem to get enough of our laundry baskets. There must besomething really cool about climbing inside a laundry basket that I am just toobig to fathom. I have no idea why laundry baskets fascinate my children, butthey do. Both of the boys cannot seem to help themselves. If there is a basketto climb in, they are in it!
Fun in a laundry basket
Every laundry day turns into a laundry basket free for allin my home and the children are the ringleaders of our little three ringcircus. If I have folded the laundry and placed it in the baskets they do notremain nice and neat for long. Laundry baskets get turned into robots, spaceships, hiding spots, and go carts in my home. Thank goodness I own somesturdy laundry baskets!

I am always interested and amused by my children’simaginations. They find new and exciting ways to entertain themselves everyday. I am just lucky enough to be able to bear witness… sometimes I even get toplay along.

All dressed up...

There is somethingto be said for seeing little kids in dress up clothes. No, I do not meanplaying pretend by wearing a stethoscope and taking the temperature of everystuffed animal in the neighborhood. When I say dress up I mean dressing up!

Little man in a tuxedo!
My son is going tobe the ring bearer in my little sisters wedding this June. He will wear atuxedo and he will walk down the aisle {hopefully without incident} carrying alittle ring bearer pillow. This will be a fairly good sized wedding and therewill be a lot of eyes on him. I am sure that my little center of attention willlove it!

This week I tookmy son to get measured for his tuxedo. It was a very entertaining experience. He laughed when the seamstress measured him, because apparently tape measurersare very ticklish tools. We tried on a sample tuxedo to determine the size hewould need and William insisted that he was “Ready to go to work. JUST likedaddy.”

I am biased andthink that my son is the most handsome little man ever. I was happy to hearthat others share my opinions as well… even my son! William expressed hisopinion while modeling the tuxedo jacket, “I am handsome, just like daddy. Ican go to work too! I can go make money for Thomas and Edward. I’m so handsome.”Well… I tend to agree with him. I think he is handsome and he is the spittingimage of his father. I just didn’t realize that he thought this too.

I am alwaysentertained by my children and the things that come out of their mouths. Thewedding should be very entertaining. I am curious to see which direction my sontakes his role. Is he going to get flustered and become shy? Is he going tostrut down the aisle? Will he yell at everyone to stop looking at him? I havelearned that as a parent that I can only control so much and that anything canhappen.

No matter how the events play out, myson will be one handsome little man all dressed up in his little tuxedo!

Wordless Wednesday: A Day at the ZOO!

To contact us Click HERE
Ourfamily zoo membership is expiring soon and we decided that we were not going torenew it this year. There are some other establishments that offer familymemberships that we are looking into for this coming year that are a littlecloser to home and easier for me to navigate when I am alone with the kids.

Wetook one last trip to the zoo before our membership expired this last week andhad a fabulous time. We like to go first thing in the morning before the zoo getscrowded. We park right up in the front {2nd spot from the entrancethis time!} and head in as soon as the gates open. We don’t battle crowds andthe animals are really active. We picnic for lunch and then head for home soonafter. We love going to the zoo and will miss our family zoo membership immensely. At the same time, we are very much looking forward to trying something new andcloser to home.

Hereis our day at the zoo; I hope you enjoy!
